Title: Missing spring in distributor housing or not?
Post by: jpinet on January 29, 2015, 22:20:56

There is a spring # 127 993 01 01 that sits on the helical gear # A 127 158 01 12 in the main distribution housing
In the epc, it says ‘As of engine 982 004179’. My engine is 981 006883.
Am I right to think I should not have this spring?
I dropped the helical gear out of the housing and could not see if there was a spring there that would have bounced off somewhere in the depths of my garage

Do I need it?

Thanks!

Hello jp (again),

Yes,
that's correct. You need the spring here.
The EPC is sometimes a bit mystic on this since it today covers listings for more than one (M127) engines.
The old paper parts book was far more unambiguous on this.

Distributor housing spring, and its purpose in the M-B design, is discussed in this thread
