Title: Window Chrome Trim on 280SE 1970 Cabriolet
Post by: dpreston Virginia on January 26, 2015, 17:25:47
Having some work done on my 280SE. I would love to replace the chrome on the roll down windows while the interior is out. My chrome is scratched and pitted. Any reasonably priced suggestions appreciated. Looks like a job to remove the chrome from the window.
I am also looking for the chrome trim on the passenger door on the map pocket. Mine is missing.
Thanks,
David

David,

Usally the window chrome moldings are well suited for rechroming. They are made of brass and unless
they  are damaged I think your best option will be rechroming.
Finding new ones will probably be close to impossible, or very expensive..
To reinstall the window frames you need to replace the rubber gaskets, sold by the metre and lots of patience and persistance.
Heat and soapy water might help as well. Its a fiddly job, especially the rear ones.

If your door map pockets are the European version I might have chrome trim stashed away somewhere

I have a pair(right and left) of trim pieces that go on the top of the door window glass.  They are 21 1/2 inches long and in excellent condition.   617 947 6399
