I have just finished fitting a new firewall pad and generally tidying up the back of my engine bay. During the process I removed quite a few bolts, screws clips etc. i also dismantled the hood (bonnet) catch, cleaned it up and repainted it. All the parts were carefully kept in one bin, however now I have put everthing back together I am left with the bolt shown in the attached photo. It has a round head that looks like a genuine part and has some of the body paint on it. 6mm diameter x 1mm thread pitch and 22mm long under the head. Some sort of adjustment screw?
Very embarassing hope someone can help?

It looks like a stop screw that lost it's rubber top. You have one in each corner of your engine bay and you adjust them so that the hood rests on them. I'm pretty sure I'm right, as it looks like there is some residue on the bolts head. Let me know!

If that's the bolt I'm talking about, it also has a lock nut that you tighten against the holder.
-
It is true, it stop the hood. The nut is to tighten. Only the rubber is gone.

Yep, I'm quite sure that's the one but with a lost rubber.

Duh! as Americans say. Yep I just replaced my rubber stop bolts for the bonnet/hood and must have thrown the old one in the bin!.
Thanks guys.

Also look at item #58 (see photo at the bottom of the page). These special fasteners were used to attach the fuel pump bracket in the trunk (boot). They were also used in some other places, possibly to hold down wiring clips in the engine bay. Originally they had a tiny square spring clip attached under the head which held them in place. They are inserted in square holes.

Joe,
That's the same I immediately thought.
I think the screw thread for the hood rubber stop bolts is a bit longer.

It is looks like the hood stop screw with the rubber part missing. It is also a possible to be the air filter housing rubber support with the rubber part missing.

Yes, but he says: ''I have just finished fitting a new firewall pad and generally tidying up the back of my engine bay.'' And then later: ''Yep I just replaced my rubber stop bolts for the bonnet/hood and must have thrown the old one in the bin!'' Conclusion: hood stop bolt w/o the rubber part. Hey, call me Sherlock!

I think it goes up through the fender well into the engine compartment and like Joe said, the wiring holding clamp is tightened on it on a LHD it is the third one forward from the firewall. You should find a hole on the top of the fender well.
