Can I get a datacard if I am not yet the owner of the car?
I am looking to buy one (a280se3.5 coupe). But the seller says he doesn't have the datacard. I don't want him to get it and increase the price of the car. So can I have the datacard at Mercedes, when I just have the VIN number of the car? What will it cost me?
best regards, Rudy

Rudy, 9 times out of 10, or maybe 9.5 times, you would need to be the owner to get the data card. Typically you need to show proof of ownership before getting it. On the other hand I have heard some dealers will just order it if asked, and do not ask for proof of ownership. So it will be entirely dependent on who you ask to get yo the data card.
There is no cost for the data card. At least, I haven't heard of anyone getting charged to get one. So unless there is something you think will be on the data card that the owner might use to increase the price, I don't see why it would effect the asking price.

I believe the MB Classic Centre will supply a data card but if you dont give proof of ownership you will not get the lock/key data.

I enquired about requesting a data card at my local MBZ dealer in Poole (UK).. They said there is a fee of £20.

Paul,
Send an email to Tom Hanson at MB Classic Centre in CA USA and he will send you a copy of the Data Card. Include proof of ownership like registration cert or bill of sale or title, what ever you may have. That way you also get the key data on the card otherwisw you will normally not be given that info.
