I was too busy keeping myself from getting killed removing the springs to mark them properly. I found that although they are identical in size and paint codes, one has a considerably thicker top mount.
May I assume that the thicker mount goes on the driver's side, or should I use the standard size (the only size now available) on both sides?
Thanks,
BB

You should be using the same thickness rubber spring mounts on both left & right sides.
Are you replacing your springs as well?
I'm not sure what you mean by the " the standard size (the only size now available)..."
The mounts come in a variety of thicknesses ranging from: 20mm - 22.5mm - 25mm - 27.5mm - 30mm.
Have a look here: http://www.sls-hh-shop.de/en/230-280SL-W113/33-Front-Suspension/?_artperpage=10&listorderby=oxstock&listorder=desc
Click on 146 on the diagram it will show you the various mounts available...
I've just recently replaced all 4 springs and all 4 rubber mounts plus the 2 bottom rubber rings for the rear springs. For the top mounts, I used 27.5mm L & R in front & 30mm L & R at the back.
Best,
Mike

I hope your are installing new springs, in which case you should be installing new identical spring rubbers too.
Someone has been fiddling with your car to try and compensate for lopsided ride height probably caused by weak spring(s)
