Title: 1966 230SL Window Crank Chrome Embellisher
Post by: Harry on December 09, 2014, 12:01:54
I am re-installing my door panels on my 230SL and noticed that there is apparently an orientation to the chrome embellishment ring that goes between the window crank and the panel (with a round nylon bushing in between).  The chrome ring actually has a bit of a taper to it, and a "tang" or tab on the back side.  I see nothing in or around the mating splined shaft that looks like it might accept this tang.  My thoughts are that the chrome ring installs with the wider portion to the rear of the car and the thinner portion to the front.  This would maybe seem to match the panel itself which has a slight curvature.

Advice/experience?

Thanks,
Harry

Garry - unfortunately not but thanks.  I can see the chrome ring in your photo but I can't determine the orientation.  (It would take a close-up of the crank assembly.)  Never mind though.  I think that I can find the proper orientation.  I would like to ask where you found your coco mats?  I like the fit that I see in your picture.  Are you happy with them?

Harry,

The coco mats are athe second lot I have had in the second Pagoda I have had.  They are excellent and come from www.cocomats.com and there are plenty on the site here that have used them.  They do both left and right hand mats but you need to specify that it is a LHD or RHD for the rubber insert to be fitted correctly and for them to fit correctly.

I can do a closer photo if that helps you?

I saw the cocomats.com in the forum and just wondered if that's where you found yours.  Did you send them a template or simply order the mats for that car?  I had some made for a previous car (not a Mercedes) that had a flat floor.  The mats with the stiff backing worked fine in that application.  I wondered if your mats also had the stiff backing and if so, how did they conform to the floor pans (two level) in the Pagoda?

If you have the time, a close-up would be handy but don't go to any trouble.  I got the passenger side door panel on last night, which pretty much wraps up my refurbishment of the 230SL interior.  The pull handle on that door was a pain in the neck to get installed (lining up holes, etc.) but it all worked out.  The new leather interior is really beautiful.  I have a new convertible top that I will probably go ahead and install while I have the hard top off.  Seems like it never ends!

Thanks,
Harry
