Title: Are the inside of the trunk/trunklid BLACK or Body Color?
Post by: jf308 on December 08, 2014, 02:40:53
I am starting my hubcaps, rockers and some stone chips, etc tomorrow.   My trunk lid inside is BLACK.

Should it be body color???

As John said it is very dark grey, officially called Tief Dunkengrau (very dark grey :o)

However to Quote Achim as not all were equal,

Well, there has been some discussion in the past whether or not "all" pagodas had tiefdunkelgrau-painted trunks  and softtop compartments or not. Shocked
There are several pre-1968 survivors (inluding my own 1964 230 - at least regarding this aspect) who did not come with a tiefdunkelgrau trunk but with a real (semi-gloss) black trunk. Clearly black not deep dark grey!  Cool
This changed at a certain manufacturing date but I don't know exactly when.

From the Tech Manual...

"The trunk of M-B´s in the 60's (like W113) is actually not black, but a very dark gray. It can be ordered via Mercedes dealerships. Ordering code is 000 986 67 33 - 7164. The "000 986 67 33" is the part number of a one component (not catalyzed) paint sold by MBAG, and the "7164" is the color code for this deep dark gray. It is semi-gloss."

My 1966 built 230SL "survivor" (original red tire pressure label and hang tag) is definitely "very dark grey" in the trunk.
