Title: Did Euro delivery cars have a Mercedes Benz hood emblem?

Friends 69 Euro 280 SL VIN Tag says Daimler Benz on it (engine bay) and the hood DOES NOT have any emblem.

My 64 230 SL has the same Daimler Benz VIN tag, but DOES have a Mercedes Benz emblem on the hood.  Did the US importer add the emblem?


Wondering which is more correct for a european delivered vehicle.

All W113 vehicles had the enamel emblem on the hood centre front.

Yes...All w113's.

I believe that while the car's "make" is Mercedes-Benz the manufacturer is Daimler-Benz. That's how its been almost back to the beginning.

FWIW at the last PUB meeting in 2011, there were a number of Pagodas visiting that did NOT have the hood emblem. My suspicion is that they were removed for a repaint and for one reason or another were not replaced. This frequently happens, with of all things, the VIN tag as well. It gets removed for the repaint, and lost...

Cast metal and i think enamelled.  The replicas for sale are painted.

The hood emblems are quite pricey and in my opinion detract from the aesthetics of the car!

It is all a matter of taste but I find the emblem quite attractive and befitting.
