The sentence above the photo shows "Con la muerte a la espalda" ... "with the dead on his back" perhaps meaning the movie where Richard Gere crashes a Pagoda in the movie ... the name of the movie escapes me at the moment :) I must be having a senior moment LOL oh wait it just came to me it was called "Intersection" the car ends up in a treble crash in the movie.

When you see the clip you wonder in how many takes this was taken since Richard Gere made many more movies after that one :)

Rolf, I wish one day that Mercedes will let out some video's showing assembly of the w113's.

There might be no chance of that happening (they certainly have taken photos, however, movie clips I'm not sure about). Automobile production methods etc. were fairly sicretive back then. Guess we have to just be happy with some photos and imagine the rest. We can be certain that most of the work was hand build (not like todays work all robot supported).
In 2008 I visited the factories of BMW, VW and Mercedes it was most interesting (it was one item on my bucket list and I enjoyed it immensely). I went into the VW Glass Factory in Dresden and they insisted I return my camera to the car, so I did. Now they have a video on the Internet (how things change in a few years) see the clip below. This factory tour and the Mercedes and BMW impressed me very much.

A former business partner and I went to the Corvette Factory and Museum in Bowling Green Kentucky (before the museum floor swallowed several priceless corvettes). We took the VIP factory tour only four of us with 2 tour guides, it took 3 hours and we walked 3.5 miles of the assembly line. I sort of imagine that our Pagodas were hand build much like the Corvette back in the 60s. Some photos below, I'm sure you saw them before.
Everyone that loves cars and some day has a chance should make a factory tour or two :) I highly recommend it.

This picture in rmmchl initial posting is interesting, among other things, because it illustrates the SA code on many data cards "Mode of Packing" .
There seems to have been three modes, VE I, VE II and VE III. These had SA code SA 665, 667 and 668.
Note the W113 car at the front which is delivered w/o HardTop; the SoftTop is partly covered due to the packaging mode.
