Title: Hard Top Question
Post by: tel76 on November 23, 2014, 08:39:43
Has anyone got there hard top completely stripped down ? I require the hard top B post length from top to bottom ie the measurement from just under the drip rail to the bottom adjacent to the locking mechanism.
My reason for requesting this measurement is that on my hard top someone in the long distant past has sawn through the top of the B post where the B post meets the roof and re -welded it ( not a very good weld), when they re-welded it they butted up the pillar to the roof section this had the effect of making the pillar slightly shorter, I can only assume that it was cut to facilitate the re-fitting or re-moving of the quarter glass.

Hello tel76,

My hard top is hanging in the garage, completely stripped and newly painted.  This afternoon, I'll lower it enough to measure the exact length of the B-pillar as you requested and post the answer (with a photo or two to show where and how I measured it).

Hello tel76,

I couldn't get a photo (not enough hands, with me on a ladder and with the top hanging over my engine, which is on a pallet sitting on some saw horses).  I measured as accurately as possible from the exact inner corner of the top and B-pillar down to the exact outer corner of the B-pillar and horizontal seal surface near the hardtop latch.  I got 17.75 inches.  I hope that's good enough.

Just in case my explanation was confusing, here's where I measured from and to.

Hello Tom,
Thank you for taking the time to measure your hard top and also clarifying where the measurements were taken from.
With regard to the B post can you please inform me if the post is perfectly straight or is there a slight bow in it.
Mine has a slight bow.

You are right.  I checked it with a straight-edge.  I've modified the previous sketch to show the slight (1/4") bow in the B-pillar.  Go back and look at it.
Sorry for the oversight.

Thank you once again, I would have thought that they would be straight, you have saved me another job,
