Title: Rubber Seal Replacement
Post by: bkksl on October 03, 2014, 06:13:33
I am planning to change all rubber seal on Hardtop, Doors, windows, softtops on 280SL.  On ebay I found several after markets set, however I concern that those seals may not fit very well.  Can you please advise a good source to buy high quality OEM seal? Has anyone had any problem with aftermarket seal?

Watching this with interest.
I changed my soft top frame seal with the SLS ones. They had to be cut at the fold points.

Unless Ive done something wrong they don seem to work very well at all. My old originals were a lot better so will be reinstalling those.

The parts from Mercedes are a staggering price.

But the MB ones seem to fit...

Also the MB seals have a "felt" covered surface where the window touches it, plus it also is plugged close at the top.
It seems that all aftermarket seals do not have that.

I'm also planning to buy all new rubbers also.
Felt covered on the glass is important to me so I will at least need to go original for those. ( good point Urban)

I used aftermarket ones on my doors on my first car and had to cut them to fit - which I didn't mind doing as I feared I might have needed to do that on the originals anyway. It was easy to stretch them when installing so I didn't know if it was me or a poor fit ( pretty certain it was a poor fit).

Still might buy aftermarket where not seen/ barely seen as I don't mind a little trimming to save the large cost difference. ( but will check price differential again)

Actually have just ordered from MB and the seals arent expensive... The top seal still comes as one L shaped piece needing to  be cut at around £30 GBP and the vertical A pillar seal is around the same price.

Previously I had been pricing up the metal "runners" at over £150 each as the parts catalogue is as clear as mud.

Ordered, will repost back on ease of fitment.
