Title: VIN Plate Location - 280SL 1969

Hi
Should the VIN Plate for a 1969 280SL be in the engine bay or in the door mounted on the B pillar post?

I can only speak to US spec cars that I know about.

The two that I know are mine, and Alfreds (66andblue).

My VIN ends in -7262 and was a January 1969 production. Alfreds is similar vintage; both were located in the same location.
That would be the door jamb, left side (drivers side) mounted underneath the A pillar.

I think some later ones had it on the other side of the door jamb, but not sure. I know the location of mine is correct, and Alfred's as well.

My # 008014 is on the front of the door jamb like Michael's

My #018286 is on the rear of the same (driver's) door jamb

My understanding is that all the euro deliveries had it on the firewall?

Correct. My 69 Euro delivery and my current 230 Euro delivery both have it on the firewall LH side looking from the front.

My 280 SL, Build date Sept 1969, VIN ends in 12730 has the plate on the B pillar
