Title: Door window removal problem
Post by: aussiebattler on July 20, 2014, 08:14:06
Can anybody please help regarding removal of the door window glass.
I've got to the stage where the inner lift mechanism rail has been removed, but the glass is stuck to the inner horizontal rail and doesn't want to let go. I'm worried about "levering" it from the glass in case of breaking the glass.
I also have found the front guide piece is missing and not even inside the door, so if any body has one for the right side please let me know.
Thanks, Jack

Contact Gernold Nisius in Maine.
He has all the parts.

I assume you have made sure that all the screws are removed from the bottom of the glass holding it to the rail.
There normally is a rubber strip on each side between the glass and the strip.
It may be stuck. Try shooting some brake cleaner along the edge.
There is no mechanical reason for the glass to be held the the track, besides the screws of course.

Hi, Jack,
You need to take off the outer chrome trim etc
The glass will come out with the lower rail attached

Hi all who responded to my request for advice.
Update I have now removed both windows from the doors, but with the outed rail still attached, at first it wouldn't easily come out, but after discussions with Andy from NZ I decided to bite the bullet and pull it out, it took some jiggling and with someone else holding the door because I had already removed the door from the car.
It was a very tight fit though, it would be interesting to know what sequence they did the original assembly was. Or if others here have knowledge of the reassembly sequence.

Hi Jack,  pleased to here you persisted and nailed the niggle  :D

I think the difference was that I took my glass out when the door was attached to the car.  I had the hinges to pull against.  I can imagine it would have been 10 time more difficult with an unrestrained door panel.  Well done!
