I have heard rumors that there are folks who will manufacture a custom license plate. I would like to get one that is an exact match of the one that came on my car originally. Can anyone point me to someone (perhaps an ex-con...) that can make a set? Thanks, Barry

Try this.

Interesting. They don't do California... I wonder why.

I noted that also. I'll send them an email and ask.

They don't do Florida either.

Because it is illegal in CA to reproduce a license plate.
There used to be a shop in Tustin, CA that made them - I believe the web site was CR8APL8.com or something like that - but I never found out out whether they ere real or a scam.

Hmmm... I can't seem to get to his site, but I did find a YouTube with lot's of spirited reviews!

Except that you cannot use their plates on a car:
"Note: Sorry, the state of California does not allow reproduction license plates to be made without the authorization from the CA Dept. of Motor vehicles.
STATE PLATES HAVE "NOT FOR OFFICIAL USE" STAMPED ON TO THE PLATE."

Why don't you order a California Legacy Plate from the CA DMV?

No one has definitely stated whether or not the black plates with yellow lettering will actually look the same, or if they will be reflectorized, etc to meet current requirements. Unfortunately no one knows how it will actually look.

Pretty sure they will be reflectorized (question 13 on the FAQ link). A little off topic but my neighbor has a 1960 Porsche and last year he sent off a letter to the CA DMV requesting a set of 1956 yellow plates. He was told that they had some available and for a nominal cost they would mail them out to him. When he got the plates he couldn't believe what he got, a pair of un circulated brand new '56 plates in their original mailer envelope!
