Hi Folks,
I finally got the engine back in and running. The reader's digest version is... no oversize pistons were available, so I went with Metric Motors sleeves and re used the old pistons with new rings.
New Sleeves, Rings...400.00
Block work, Head work some assembly 1500,00
She runs great, and no smoke. Does anyone have a diagram to show where the original engine decals might have been located on a 66 230 sl? I bought the complete set from Miller's and I am not sure where they go. Also, my auto gearshift is very sloppy. It looks like some bushings are missing (perhaps disintegrated) and I was wondering if anyone has a better drawing of what's in there?
Thanks for all the help on this. Tips from this site saved me a lot of grief.
Allen

Hello Allen,
The engine looks great except for that red battery cable (was originally black). A spray can of good black plastic paint can fix that. Did you install new rings and did you have to recondition your old piston ring grooves?
