Alex,

I'm sure some people here will have experience with the W116 chassis S-Class.

I would also recommend you ask at
http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/forumdisplay.php3?f=12

Another good forum is at
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/forums/forum-view.asp?fid=24

If you create a Yahoo! ID (not get an @yahoo.com e-mail address, just create an ID), then you could join http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mercedesw116/

Best of luck!

Hello alex,
200,000 miles is nothing for a well maintained 450-SE. However they usually need an expensive valve job by this time as they will begin to use oil through the worn valve guides. They are great daily drivers, comfortable and powerful, but hard on gas 13 to 17 mpg. The timing chain should be replaced at least once by now also. This model had problems with the exhaust manifolds cracking, they are expensive. A new manifold design solved the problem. Hopefully this is a early enough car so it has no catalytic converters. the earliest versions had pretty small chrome bumpers like the euro models. Also the early cars had manual heater controls instead of aging troublesome climate control in the later cars. Here again finding someone familiar with these cars is very important for your happiness. The seat padding completely disentigrates on some, ask about this. These are very nice cars if fuel is not an issue. Try to get a service history.

thank you Joe  and Rodd ,
this is a great looking car When did they come out with the new manifold?
Is this much more expensive to maintauin over an average year then a 250se?
the seat padding  is good ,, could be better is it very expensive to repair?
what would you say a very nice one, that needs in the future valves, timing chain, front end bushings is worth.
ps i'm going to joyn the other sites later
a thousend thank for your help      alex B .
