I just got a phone call from a friend who lives in southwest Poland. His relatives bought an old far estate in the countryside some weeks ago. Upon checking their new home, to their great surprise, they found a dusty car in their barn. After some clean up, my friend discovered that it was a Mercedes. To cut his long story short, he found a Pagoda that, except for dust and flat tires looks in excellent state. He said that both tops are there.
I asked my friend some question and based on his answers it appears to be a very early 230 model, in metallic blue with parchment interior. The HT is creamy white. In the areas he cleaned up, the paint and chromes are in excellent condition. It seems to be a Euro model. The counter shows a bit over 18000 km.
When he asked around, the neighbors told him an amazing and tough to believe story. It appears that a German couple went to Poland in late ‘60s in this car. Due to a dispute between them, the lady dropped the keys of his bellowed car into a well. The guy went berserk and left. She followed a few days after. The car was left abandoned and they never came back to claim it back. It was stored in the barn and forgotten until discovered by the relatives of my friend.
I should be able to post some pictures that my friend promised to send once he gets back to Internet covered area.
If the car proves to be as original as this story, this would have been a sensational discovery of the year.

Exciting story. Can't wait to see the pictures....

Very interesting story, guess he needs to get a new set of keys or might that model year had one key for all locks ... Keep us posted Stan, looking for ward to see the photos once your friend has had a chance to clean her. Would be great if he would take some photos of her as he found her in the barn. What a story ... Bet Board Members will find space for a good story as you learn more for the next Pagoda Notes issue.
Thanks for sharing!

Dear Members,
Thank you for reading this April Fools' Day story. Hope you enjoyed it. ;) ;) ;)
I thought that by putting this post in the 'Way Off Topics' was a clear clue that there is something smelly about this information, but I was glad that R-D and Louis picked on it.
Sadly, there will be no follow up posts (except maybe in one year) nor pictures relative to this story, but I appreciate that at least two Members reacted.
Board Members or anybody else won't have to give it any more attention... 8)

Well done Stan!!!
No one will be able to pull this April Fools again for a number of years. You built the holiest of grail dreams and crushed it within 24 hours.

Kampala,
I am pleased that at least it upheld the dreams for 24 hours. Usually April Fools last much shorter :)

i read in one of your posts that you will be in Berlin this summer. This is just 50 miles from the Polish Border and 180 miles from the city of Wroclaw (Breslau) where I was born, so it's just a short jump ;)

BTW your emoticons show the very German tradition that is cultivated in Bavaria rather than in Brandenbourg (where if I am not mistaken you were born in...) ;D ;D ;D
Also, are you on the left or on the right side? :D :D

It's all in fun Stan ,,,, ;D

It is, indeed. even tough the behind suffers in pains ;D

When you get to be my age Stan you need to learn to live with a few more pains :) glad I have my Blue Tornado in the garage and a nice reminder of it in my Man-cave to keep me smiling :) you know of course what I mean.
Of course I need to add when we do drive our Pagoda we all tend to forget lives pain whatever the origin or cause was ...

One of my astronomy acquaintances says "April Fools' Day is the one time everyone else understands what it feels like to be a skeptic the rest of the year."
