Does anyone know if the the original spare rim was also painted body color or just a unpainted rim?
-
They were Body/hardtop colour.

My 230 sl is 1965, body color is DB 050, and hard top is black, the rims are also body color?

Yes, on the outside. Inside a grey-green colour, as delivered from rim manufacturer

What if your body and hard top weren't the same color? ;D
-
Wheels were always the body colour on the outside even when the hard top was a contrasting colour.

Thinking this discussion has come up before. I thought rims were body color and hubcaps were hardtop color.
-
Kevin you are right I was thinking hubcaps, rims are body colour. Having a seniors moment ::)

On my car which is original - papyrus white with black hardtop:
Rims are body colour on the outside.
Inside they are the greysih colour as described in an earlier post on this thread.
The hubcaps are the hartop colour.
I also have a brochure and it confirms all of this with the exception of the inside of the wheels as there are no pictures.

Alex,
As I remember, you have the older style hubcaps with the beauty rings. In that case, the outer side of the rim should be body color, the inside should be the black color state above, and the hubcaps should match the hardtop. According to the pics I reviewed on google image.
