Hey, my fuel pump protective shroad is missing in action. Any sources for this? Thanks! I love this forum!

Miller's had a listing for one at $250, SLS also had one at ~Euro 170, but they showed a shadow picture of a second version - early style? I would guess there are the usual group of vendors that have them, K&K, Caliber, Neimoller...

Wow! Two hundred dollars plus? I may have to fabricate, though I wonder if this was also a cross over part?

N.B. Mine is missing because more then one mechanic didn't want to put it back on or replace it. Why they felt this way escapes me. If you are not going to show the car don't worry about an original.

I'd hope you could find a used one for a reasonable price. Maybe Gernold, or check Hemmings for used MB parts suppliers.

I bought one two years ago off Ebay for $60, it was repainted and looks great. Have not taken the time to put it on though! (one of those things).

be aware that the 230sl cover is different than 280sl cover...don't know about 250sl

I think I have a cover for the 230 SL because it does not fit my 280 SL late-style fuel pump. I was under the impression there is an adapter but I have not really checked this. If not, I was planning to make my own adapter.

The early 280 SLs had the big fuel pump, later they got the small pump. The BBB has a section on retrofitting the small pump to cars originally equipped with the big pump. There is indeed a mounting adapter for the small pump, as Cees mentioned. However, the BBB does not say anything about changing the shroud, which leads me to wonder if the shroud remained the same throughout, with the adapter compensating for the different pumps. Need somebody with early and late cars to crawl under and compare them...

The shroud that is fitted with the newer small style pump is different because the inlet and outlets are located different from the older large style pump. The newer pump does need to use the adaptor plate as Cees says to attach it under the car and there are several ways to doing this including using the top "X" bracket from the older style pump if you are doing a a replacement for the large style pump. Like many of these cars, mine went through a pump change many years ago and the shop installed the newer pump. They left the shield off and told me it would not fit with this pump. I took the shield home and stored it. I eventually went back to a rebuilt old style pump during my recent restoration and re-installed the shield. I never did really like running around with the pump exposed as it was. I've seen the new pump installed with a shield and the shield looks like it is a modified shield as used with the older pump. Looks like they slice out a portion of it to allow entry of the fuel hoses. You can see this in the Haynes workshop manual. Hope this helps
