Title: Correct screws for int. door trim
Post by: Clayton on February 27, 2014, 20:10:20
Does anybody know the correct screws for the chrome pieces that attach to the interior side of the door around the hinge. There are 3 pieces. 2 that secure the rubber seal and 1 larger piece on top. In removing mine, I found many different types. I am thinking, rounded head, tapered and blunt point. Bueller?

They are chrome, round head, "Phillips" screws.  They are 2.9 mm in diameter and 9.5 mm long.  I believe they have a blunt tip.

The Mercedes part number is 007983-002203 and the little buggers list for $3.40 apiece.  I couldn't find a cheaper screw that would work.

Here is another  tip that might be helpful if the screwhole for these moldings is slightly enlarged.
Its  MB part no. A000 990 10 36. Its an identical screw except that it has a thread of 3.2 mm but still with the small screw-head of the 2.9mm DIN 7983 screw.

Another trick that can be done is with the use of fine copper wire.  By putting fine copper wires in the hole before using your existing screws, but the hole has enlarged then the softer copper will sometimes squash into the thread and allow a firm take up of the old screw threads and hold.

Thanks Hans, I just ordered 2 of them today. If the hole is still too large....I'm going with that copper fix. Does anyone know where to get the 3.9 x 9.5mm cad. or zinc screws with the blunt tip? Mercedes said 007983-003335 is no long valid. Is David Gallon still the guy?
