Title: Paris Retro-Mobile event 2014
Post by: kampala on February 09, 2014, 15:21:18
This week the Retro-Mobile event was held in Paris.  There were a couple of pagodas ... some photos to follow.

Also, at the event, while looking at some Mercedes press items, I met the editor of "Etoiles Passion" magazine.  Some of you may have seen this magazine before but I clearly missed it.  He gave me their Pagoda special issue which came out last year ...  and he chatted about Paul Bracq's restoration shop in Bordeaux ... of course even though he writes about all mercedes, his favorite is the Pagoda ... and he has one.

The articles compare the driving experiences of a 230 & 280 and another article focus on the history and protypes that led to the Pagoda.

A couple of shots from the Magazine ... and a few shots from the event to follow.

This may be a bit of heresy, but I think the strawberry red Gullwing is off the charts gorgeous. I have seen one here in SoCal (at Hjeltness Restoration and a couple of car shows) and it is just striking, great presence.

Jonny,

The Gullwing was amazing ... hence I had to take a shot of it ... the notes on the car stated that it was painted in the Original color?  I was surprised as I did not think Mercedes had such a color ...but I must be wrong.    It was quite stunning.  I have to say there were quite a few 300sl's at this event ... I can only guess they're "coming out of the woodwork" due to the now common million dollar price tag.

Yes, strawberry red is an original color (DB 543). I saw a full size sedan 300d of the late fifties painted such, with the documentation to prove it. Quite a knock out. A friend of mine is restoring a 300 SL roadster and the original color is Uranium Yellow DB 662, and he has the documentation to prove it is correct. It will be stunning.

Wonder if it is the same car as the one feature in MB Enthusiast (Dec 2013)? The MB Enthusiast cover car, is not the original color. This car was restored at Hjeltness Restoration here in Escondido, and the owner wanted it in DB 543, it was originally DB 180.
