Good result for a car that didn't have any history since new till 1982...

I see it also went through Coys in 2012 with a guide of 35-40 and didn't sell :o

Looks like the one on the cover of the book Mercedes Benz `Pagoda' 230, 250 & 280SL: The Essential Buyer's Guide. However the cover Pagoda is a 250 and this one 280

Is this the £71.5k car?
Unbelievable.
-
Hammer price was £75075 plus approx £6k of fees&vat so over £80k.
-
The one on the book has both side mirrors. There's one missing on the auctioned one...
-
They seem to get incredible prices at that auction! I
Noteworthy is that the LHD one with lower mileage went for significantly less. Are RHD cars holding a premium?
-
I would imagine that RHD cars in the UK would indeed come at a premium, whereas LHD cars in Europe would be more sought after.
Personally, I'd try to sell a LHD in Europe. With Ebay, etc, it can't be that hard.
-
The one on the cover of the book was owned by Roger Edwards himself, and it's still in the family.
I was fortunate enough to have a good look around it. Lovely car!
Yes, very strong money. When I was looking for my car, there were many lhd cars for sale but decent rhd cars were very scarce.

Ifty,
Looking at auction houses' webpages in the UK, one can realise that many LHD cars offered are actually US versions, which means that the offer is fuelled by imports. On the other side, RHD, especially in decent condition are limited in number and are affected by the UK climat (OK it got better over the last 20 years, but I still remember the omnipresent fog and humidity...)

This has the wrong rear light for a 280. Good cars are selling for BIG money.
