Title: Seam sealer in trunk?
Post by: Shvegel on January 21, 2014, 02:53:11
It occurred to me that when I get my body back from E-coating that the trunk will be a very nice satin black. I thought that I might be able to leave it as it is but I am wondering if there is any areas where the metal seams are sealed with seam sealer(caulking). Can anyone with an unmolested trunk chime in on this? Thanks in advance.

My car was "conventionally" restored, no e-coating. As SOP during a conventional restoration, seam sealer was applied after priming but before painting. Don't know how this fits in with your plans, but that's how one restorer did it. In the photo I attached from 2001, the car is mostly primed, (grey) but you can see white lines in the trunk--that's the seam sealer.
