Title: Steering wheel
Post by: gugel on August 08, 2004, 13:11:09
On my 230SL, I bump my knee on the steering wheel whenever I brake or clutch.  I've seen some Pagodas with smaller diameter after-market steering wheels which looked good.  Any suggestions as to the nicest ones which aren't too expensive?

Chris:

You make it difficult when you want a wheel that isn't "too expensive."

I love the Nardi wheel. It's smaller then the orginal wheel which I like very much; keeps cool and dry; looks very sharp...but Nardi's do cost. New, I guess about $350, used maybe $200...but in my view a wheel is a one time purchase and is very important to the feel and appearance of the car and is worth the extra $$$'s...

I just steered someone over to the nardi site this afternoon. Someone was looking for a horn button. www.nardiusa.com ph# 1-888-868-0808 the guy is in south Florida. He also does custom Benz horn buttons. You may also try ebay.

A few words of caution on smaller diameter steering wheels. The Benz Doctor has advised that using these smaller wheels may cause the driver to damage the multifunctional turn signal lever. A $500.00 replacement. Another thing to keep in mind is the view of the instruments will be partially blocked.

My opinion on the Nardi, I think they look great! They also feel better do to the thicker wheel. The wood is a nice accent with the cars' interior wood.

Chris,

I have the Nardi wheel on my 280sl.  Excellent condition.  I want to replace it with the original ivory wheel.  If you want to buy my Nardi, please let me know.  The $ will help me buy my new ivory wheel.
