Title: Panoramic HT roof
Post by: Flyair on November 15, 2013, 17:02:31
Just saw this one for another Mercedes model, which gave me the idea of asking if anybody did that for a Pagoda or is thinking about doing it....

Quite frankly, if money and originality pursuit wasn't an issue, I wouldn't mind buying one for such a modification...

The glass would be expensive to have made.
I have thought about making carbon fibre hard tops..................

Sick,

I actually spoke with a local company that does car windows on demand. The roof is slightly more complex and costly they said but still not a killer.

I don't know I would miss the wind in my hair :) on the other hand it must be a better solution then using the special designed windscreen. :)

R-D

Such a version of HT would probably be as rarely used  as the normal HT, For emit would be rather an exercice of style and piece of art....

I doubt if anybody would sacrifice their HT for such a modification. However, with 3D printing in a couple of years.....?

I worked on a SL500 129 with a Pano roof option and had it around for a couple of weeks.  The roof somehow made the car a lot more pleasant to drive. It's not that hard to find hardtops in need of rehab if you want to keep your top original.

I would seriously consider what happens with insurance, when there is an accident with a self-made glass roof. Or am I wrong on that?

Chuck,
You are right, some decent pieces can be found, what is more difficult to find is my wife's agreement on spending a couple of grands on something she will see mostly unused in our garage ;D

Rudi: good point, but since they agree to insure us while driving topless, so maybe there is a slight chance ... :)
