I havn't been on the sight for quite a while now, because my pagoda project has stalled out.
I have come to a point to where I think I might be better off to find a replacement body shell rather than trying to patch my rusty car back together again.
Your thoughts, Ideas? Is anyone familiar with this E-bay seller in Madison, Wisconsin?
My fear of course it that I would be buying a pig-in-a-poke. And then I would have 48 hours to get to Wisconsin before it would be buried under 3 feet of snow.

It looks interesting, but the problem with something like that is verifying the standard to which the work has been done so far. I have seen several unfinished restorations where the work that had been done had actually made the car worse than it was before work was started. A good look at the door gaps and the method and standard of welding will tell you a lot but only putting it on a jig will reveal everything you need to know.
I can see that the right front fender has been cut and welded in a different place to the original join location.

Seems a bit of an odd place to cut the front wing for a repair?

Unless you can view the car before the end of the auction you are taking a big risk. The car has had some repairs done as seen in the pictures. Pictures can hide a lot.

In economics class, they tell us that anything can find a buyer if the price is right. Notwithstanding that the current "bid" on eBay is almost $7k, how much do you think this shell is worth? If it were on for $1k, say, would you jump on your horse and go check it out?

As to the seller, he is well known here. He has been doing this for a LONG TIME and knows his stuff. I personally have bought parts from him, no problems. He buys anything w113 related that comes up local.

Has anybody noticed that we are looking at body two shells here?
One is an early 230SL with a vertical spare and the other is obviously a 250SL California Coupe.
Buyer beware.

Yes, that's what the seller says in the description : "1964 Mercedes 230SL and 1967 Mercedes 250SL rolling chassis for sale no titles on the 230SL but BOS".

the 64 looks like it's the nicer of the two. but that could mean only that it has been bondo'd up and painted more recently than the other. Colorado Springs, it might as well be in Egypt. that's 30 hours of driving from Georgia. Also I would be left murdered in a ditch by my wife if I brought two body shells home, no matter what condition they were in.

You are right, the 230 is the better of the two.
