Title: High interest in buying Pagodas
Post by: Flyair on November 02, 2013, 18:30:57
I noticed that there is an unusual interest in buying Pagodas as shown by new members of this forum. This is materialised not only by posts in the "Wanted to Buy" chapter but also elsewhere through various questions and requests.

This can be explained that, indeed, there is a stronger than usual interest in purchasing this car model, but on the other side, it is also highly possible that the interest remains the same, but the notoriety and authority of this Forum  is much higher and it is considered as a good pre-purchase starting point.

In either case, this is great that Pagodas keep pleasing and retain all their charm intact... :)

Stan, It is a fine "Lady" the Pagoda I mean :) I call mine the Blue Tornado (still a nice Lady when I refer to her by that name). All kidding aside the interest is high not only for the fine piece of automotive engineering also that after 50 years there are still so many on the road and turning heads. I cannot cross our little town without getting remarks one way or the other.

R-D.
I am not amazed by the Pagoda's charm and attraction in general and I also see the heads moving while I am passing by driving mine.

My point was that, as noted by the number of posts on this forum, this Pagoda heat shown over the last couple of weeks is much higher than before

Some one I know was just offered and accepted over $1M for his 300SL Gullwing. My guess is that he paid in the $600K range for it about 6-7 years ago. He has a 300SL convertible too and that's probably worth over $750k today (both were nut/bolt restored). IMHO collectors and enthusiasts alike are always looking for "the next car" to invest in and our cars, the second generation at one tenth of these figures are probably a sure bet.

There was an interesting article on the news here last night that stated that the best investment in the last 5 years between the share market, art, houses and classic cars had the classic cars at the top of the list.

As an aside I heard a nearby neighbour, who owns a 300SL roadster and drives it hard, had an accident in it.  Word is that it is a big mess.

Here is the latest market view from the UK market. Quite interesting observation, I must admit...
