Title: Parts Catalog
Post by: Camille on October 27, 2013, 18:35:22
I am trying to locate a complete parts catalog for a 1967 250SL, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean the parts catalog that came with the car, or a spare parts list?
There is a difference, see: http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Documents/SparePartsList

Welcome'

You have at least 3 possibilities

1. There is a glove box parts book that came with the car. It has blow up diagrams and gives parts a name. This was intended so the owner could order using the correct item name.
2. There is another MB publication that is sometimes called the Dealer's Parts Book. It uses the same illustrations and format as 1 but uses Mb factory parts numbers.
Both these books show up regularly on eBay. My observation of the price ranges are:  #1, $25 - 75.   For #2 $200 - 250.

If you want to go this way, you may also place a "wanted to buy" on this forum.

3. The third possibility is the EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog?) it is on a MB site and is free to club members in the US. I never accessed it so i cant give you any specifics.

You can also try the book people like Books4cars and Autolit. Be sure to specify the year and model of your car when inquiring.

EPC is probably the way to go, since it's up to date - and free. Parts catalogs will go out of date quickly.

The EPC can be a bit fiddly to use for the first few times, but if you use it often enough it makes sense.

I am looking for the spare parts catalogue. I am in the process of restoring my car, hence need to identify the part by number/technical name/ and picture.

Every answer you've received is relevant.

The EPC let's you look up the part by picture and part number. I don't think there's a list that uses technical names, as such. A bolt is a bolt.

If you need quite a few bits, it's certainly worth getting your head around the EPC.

And if you cannot access the ECP then you need a spare parts list book, see here:   http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Documents/SparePartsList

They come up on eBay occasionally and I am sure there some book sellers in the US that will also have them, maybe try some of the listed vendors on our Vendors list.

Also suggest you put in your signature what model Pagoda you have otherwise anyone looking at post cannot necessarily see your first post easily.

Garry's comment re the 250 SL. The models in the US changed after VIN ending 2980, when all the DOT regulations took effect. You should be able to find info on that in the forum. All kinds of safety related items changed, in essence the 250 SL after 2980 had the 280 SL interior fittings, and some external changes (reflector markers).
