Title: Need help on 230SL type plate location

I have done some research and got confused on the location.  Some said on the firewall and some said it is on the door jam. Can any of you provide me with the correct answer?  I am restoring my car and have ordered new plate from UK for my 230SL old version with upright spare tire on the left side of the trunk.  Many thanks.

Fire wall Vin tag foes to the left  were there is a cut  out use a  small rivet gun just like Mercedes-Benz

The firewall position is correct as per Garry's photos. I think the door jam position was for some 280SL. Screws not rivets.
