Title: Obtaining Data cards. An update
Post by: James on October 04, 2013, 12:06:47
Hi all,
Having just purchased a nicely restored RHD 230 SL1966, I am interested in establishing some history on the vehicle.
Can you start from engine number and work back to a data card? There was little information provided with the vehicle when I purchased it.
How do you go about this?
Thanks
James

Hi all ,
I followed advice and applied to MB USA and got a data card which said my Red 230 with parchment interior was a white 280 with Red interior!
Caused me quite a fright till I saw the VIN and engine numbers were wrong. Somebody got my card and I got theirs I think.
James
P.s. On a different note, I need a supply of fuses ,I should keep some spares ,any suggestions as to how to source them please?

James,

Congrats on your new SL. Lots of information in the archives on data cards. You actually need the VIN as opposed to the engine number. Go to the home page and type "Data Card" into the search bar. Post back here again if any issues.

Again, welcome aboard!

Kevin

Hi James,

I asked the same question a little while back and am now the proud owner (albeit emailed copy) of the original data card to my car.

As Kevin has stated, you need your VIN number and also proof of ownership and copy driving license.
Just forward this information to Thomas Hanson at the MB Classic Centre - thomas.hanson@mbusa.com

Thomas was very helpful and I received my emailed data card in just a few days.

Regards
Ifty

Hi James,

I'm look to try to trace the lineage of a 230sl that I recently bought from the US.
Maybe we could swap notes. Was your car an Australian delivery from new ?
My email if you want to contact is tasman2jack@gmail.com
Cheers,
Jack

Tom will have your copy of the data card back to you within 48 hours normally and RH LH doesnt matter.

Then check your data card against the Tech Manual to understand all the codes etc. at

I contacted Tom, he had my Data Card back to me within the hour. I then ordered  some control arm rubber bushing sets from him.

Thanks for all the information about obtaining and interpreting data cards. As a new full member, I will be finding my way for a while. I have some history for my newly acquired '68 280SL, but would like to know her better. I wish I had known about this club during my earlier term of Pagoda ownership, a much loved and missed '65 230SL.

Hi James,

Your note … P.s. On a different note, I need a supply of fuses ,I should keep some spares ,any suggestions as to how to source them please?

I think you can get the fuses you need from the Classic centre contact Tom H. he will help you out. Or contact Bud's ---> http://www.budsbenz.com

When I was in Williamsburg in September Bud's was there too and they sold all kinds of fuses as well. My hunch is you get them at a lesser price from the Classic Center, so do contact Tom H.

Also...many aftermarket parts suppliers for MB sell fuses for our cars.... for instance...
