Title: Exhaust: 69 280sl 4 speed manual.
Post by: InjunJoe on September 26, 2013, 20:24:24
Good day all.

I am preparing to replace my exhaust system.  I would appreciate opinions/input on stock vs. stainless steel.

Go with Timevalve SS exhaust.  I have SS on my car and wouldn't go with anything else.

Stainless is actually a bit cheaper and lasts the lifetime of the car but there will be a change in exhaust note which some people don't like.

Whatever you do replace it with, be careful when you come to tighten it up to the manifold. Use the correct nuts and 'wavy' washers, and tighten as you would with a wheel - spreading the stress evenly, so a turn on each nut as you go, and don't over tighten.

Getting it wrong is expensive and extremely tedious to sort out.

Thank all you folks for the input.  What I am discovering is that the clamp system seems to have advantages.
