I got my car running fine lately, just have one observation. I'm used to carburrated engines which have accelerator pumps and give you that initial shot of fuel on accelerating off the line. My 69 280sl is sluggish until I get the rpm's up a bit then it accelerates great. What would that problem indicate or are all these mechanical fuel injection systems like that. I've done the linkage tour all seems right on, could it mean i should move the timing up a bit, It's currently at 30 degrees at 3000 RPM, dwell is at 38 degrees. I haven't worked on it lately probably over a month so the specs I mentioned are what I vaguely remember. Just asking, Thanks, Carey

If you have an automatic, then normally you start in 2nd gear. Put the lever in "2" and the car will start in 1st gear -it makes a difference! ;)

The throttle valve lever and the injection pump lever have to open at exactly the same time. If one opens before the other you will have a flat spot which is either lean or rich depending on which lever opens first.
30 degrees at 3,000 RPM isn't enough. That's how much the distributor moves ( 051 ) and you need to add the basic idle timing amount which is about 8 degrees for a total amount of 38 degrees at or near 3,000 RPM.

All good, and is your vacuum advance working, pull the line and the advance should go to ~8 and the rpms should go up a few hundred.
