Hi All
It's been at least 30 years since i used my timing light and i am excited to be playing with my 67 SL instead of the old beater i last used it on. Fellas - remember having to fix your car outside the night before in order to get to work the next day?
Ok, i see my timing pointer and the markings on the pulley. I see a 1 and hash marks and i think i see a 2 further down.
Do i want to have the 3 mark at the pointer at 3000 rpm? I don't see a 3 but i bet it is there. I know to clean and mark the marks i want but is this right? Does the 3 mean that it is 30 degrees Before tdc ?

30 degrees is how much the distributor should advance but you also need to add your basic timing at idle to that amount. 38 degrees full advance at or around 3,000 RPM is what you should be looking for.
Note: the timing marks go either way of the zero ( TDC ) position. They go 20 degrees retard and maybe 60 degrees advance - make sure you use the advance scale.

Thanks for saving me on retard vs advance. How many degrees before tdc should I be at idle?
