Title: tonneau cover
Post by: hauser on July 24, 2004, 22:32:40
Take a look at item # 2485477601 on ebay. I believe some members were trying to find something like this. I wouldn't mind having one either.

Do you think this was a custom job?

Can you confirm that item #, please? It doesn't seem to work for me.

The cockpit cover is available from Mercedes and other suppliers, about $50. Take a look at the message below and follow it to an earlier message to know what to ask Mercedes for. The cover is in a special Mercedes parts catalog

Richard is it for the W113 or are you using one designed for the W107?

The cockpit cover from Mercedes fits both 107 and 113 cars since the cockpit area is just about the same...the rake of the windshield does not make any difference. I've seen the same cover on a 107 and then on my 113, the fit is the same....

Richard I have looked at both covers, yours and the one on ebay. They are not the same. Your cover has slits for the side mirrors and the wipers are holding the cover from underneath. The ebay cover does not have these mirror cuts and has the straps that go around the wipers. Do you think they are both from M.B.? Could they be for the same car made by dif manufacturers??

Just clarify: My comment below about the cockpit cover was refering to the cover supplied to me by MB with the part number mentioned in the earlier post...that the MB cover fits both 107 and 113 is correct but...

Hauser is also correct. When I looked again, I see that the cover shown in the ebay link is not the MB cover...as Hauser notes, it has no mirror tie-downs, and no MB logo which indicates that it was  not "licensed" by MB to carry the Tri-Star symbol. The ebay cover has some printing on its front center that I could not read.

I have no knowledge about the ebay cover. I heard informally that the MB "official" cover with the logo and mirror tie-downs was made for MB by California Car Cover which sold a cover similar to the MB "official" cover without the logo.

My advice would be to order the cover from MB since it's only about $50 and you know it will fit...plus you get the mirror tie-downs which help anchor the cover correctly and your chest will swell with pride when people see the MB Tri-Star fluttering in the breeze.
