Post by: gnj588d on September 07, 2013, 14:05:17
RM auctions London are having a classic auction 7-8 September some very high end cars are up for grabs.I noticed a very early Pagoda
listed its 1963 Chassis number 113 042 12-01 6784. should be interesting to see what it makes, estimate £40-£50k any views on this car? Cheers.Mike.

If the numbers you provided are indeed the VIN, then it is a '66 and not a '63.

My car is a '66 and I think it's over 18,000 so this one is a '66

Description:  1963 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL 'Pagoda' Roadster
Chassis No: 113.042.12010784 (makes it April 1965)
Estimate: £ 40,000 - £ 50,000

LHD euro auto, looks to be an older restoration, many incorrect details but looks reasonable. RM Auctions does not seem the place for a bargain.

Mine is 009474 and the data card is stamped 1965-03-11. (BTW, party at my house on 2015-03-11.)
But it will be interesting to see (later today? tomorrow?) what transpires with 010784. Let's hope the new owner joins our Forum.

It doesn't appear to be an early car ... no compartment for the vertical spare showing from the back.

I presume it's this one: http://rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm?lot_id=1062412
Web page says "Sold for £34,720"
But I agree, it can't be a 1963. I just hope the new owner becomes a member here.

As far as I can see in the pictures, the serial number is 010784 and based on the production data in the Technical Manual, this car would have come off the assembly line in May 1965. So it would be a 1965 model; or maybe even 1966
