Bob, is parting out a 280 and I just left a post with him since I am looking for a replacement Thermostat Housing. Mine is leaking and needs to be replaced or repaired.
I made reference in my post to Bob that if I cannot find a better Thermostat Housing that I may repair it this coming winter. If I do I would use a product named "Devcon" It is a plastic steel you can read all about it in the link I'm leaving here for information purposes only. The PDF file is quite informative. I decided to start a thread here since the link is somewhat hidden in Bob's 280 sl parting out thread.
Some members may have a project where the product might come in useful. In my business live I've used it often to repair cracks, corrosion, porosity etc. then refinished the area by hand or machining. It is great stuff.
I like to stress that I have no interest or connection whatsoever with this product. I share it here since we are all dealing with a fine car that is somewhat aged and sometimes needs a little help in certain areas :)

Like Alfred I have used a metal based epoxy putty to form shapes and use for hidden parts but have never seen the different specific metals based that this appears to have nor I suspect the degree of hardness. Very interesting stuff.

Ah ! Devcon ... we used this extensively when I was on some of our older ships in the Merchant Navy, an excellent product,
they used to make various metal mixes, and even an "Underwater" Devcon, that actually did set underwater.
Another product we used in emergency was "ThistleBond" an epoxy type two part liquid compound used with glass fibre tape for fixing pipework.

I've been using JB weld to repair a corroded water pump neck on my coupe. So far so good, 2 years and 50.000 miles later.

I have used this stuff before but it was a long time ago. Devcon liquid aluminium I believe it was called.
There are many products like this out there now but this would be one of the older ones.

Benz Dr, the statement,"...this would be one of the older ones." is an understatement. I used Devcon in 1969 to make prototype changes to carburetors, like adding bosses for extra bleed screws and such, during engine and carburetor development at Ford Motor Co. engineering. I am surprised that it still exists. I had completely forgotten about it.
