My U.S 280sl import seems to be running rich but from what
I can remember back when I had dads 230&250sls it smells
the same I've not checked the plugs yet and the oil&filter
needs a change. Is it easy to change the fuel mix I.E less fuel
it sounds as though it's not running on all six while
driving but in neutral it revs o.k on all is it me or the car?

Red,
There are some basic and easy techniques to adjust fuel/air mixture, then there are some very involved techniques. There are many posts regarding fuel mixture adjustments. Please search, you'll get quite an education. One tool mentioned is a gas analyser (can't recall the name). I guess there are very expensive professional ones (Thousands of dollars), and home use ones for about $100. Again, the search tool will yeild a wealth of info.
