Title: Injector pump worn beyond repair
Post by: Gary Baxter on July 11, 2013, 06:57:12
Maybe some kind people could give me some advice. I have a 280 sl and had the injector pump bench tested; the result: the linkages are worn beyond repair.

What are my options?

Is it possible to buy a good second hand pump?

Has anyone converted to electronic fuel injection?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Gary,

I am in a similar position, who did you use for diagnosis?

Thanks,
Soul.

Met a guy at Bromley who has converted his engine to electronic fuel injection
(apparently injectors from a Vauxhall Carlton fit). He reckons to get much better
mpg and also power up around 200bhp!! Engine bay looks empty without the IP!
He has welded a sensor ring to the crankshaft pulley for timing and electronic ignition.
He is still sorting the programming as cold starts are still a little unpredictable.
I think he uses this site so maybe he will chime in.

So far I had not heard of someone having converted to EFI on a Pagoda but on older US cars I know it's being done all the time, with various manufacturers offering aftermarket systems. They tend to cost a few thousand dollars though so not something to jump into lightly.

It is easier and less expensive to tune a good FIP.  I feel I'm close to 200 hp with mine nowa little rich and about 20 mpg a little lean.  Its easy to adjust if you install a O2 sensor and gauge.   Pumps show up on ebay frequently.

Many thanks Gary,

Please let me know what you come up with?
The bits I need are so simple,
Maybe if you decide to sell your old pump you let me know.

All the best,

Soul.
