Hello all, I am a newbie here. This is my first post and I need some guidance from you.
I'd like to retore my 64 SL230. I bought the car about 10 years ago but it's been driven for less than 500km. The reason? I am a bit paranoid and afraid the car breaks down while driving it since my knowledge about engine/mechanical is absolutely zero. For that reason, I'd like to have someone restore my car, engine and mechanical parts first then body and interior. Body wise the car is in excellent condition, no rust or holes whatsoever. The engine starts without any problems even after sitting in the storage for 9 months during fall/winter/spring.
Could you recommend somebody who can work on my car? Hopefully within Toronto area. How much budget should I set aside to do this?
I bought the hardtop for my pagoda from a gentleman in Windsor, Ontario area a few years ago. I believe his name is Don Caron. He restored SL's in his garage that looks like a barn. I even went for a drive with him on one of his restored cars. Unfortunately I lost all of his contact information.

The person too whom you speak is Dan Caron, the Benz Dr. He is part of this group and well.........over to you Dan!
-
Jack, I second that ... Don has all the connections to make your car the beautiful car that she is meant to be is :) ... Over to you Dan as Jack already said :)
Your car is timeless once she has been restored ... welcome to the Pagoda SL Group!

Dan - in his innate modesty - will probably never impose himself, but rather he would let the new Pagoda addict (victim? ;D) reach the right destination by himself... :)
Here we call it a "crocodile approach": suffices it to wait with jaws widely open for THAT to happen, knowing that the prey will eventually have to get there anyway ;D
OK, but seriously, Dan: I admit I love teasing you as most times you take my words too seriously ;),
But: YES, you are welcome, if you decide to extend the Dr. Benz Excellent Adventure to Poland ;)

Sorry I didn't get to this but I've been kind of busy. I'm working on a '71 450SL right now ( yes, I work on those things too ) and we delivered it tonight. The owner died early this morning and I promised his wife that it would be there for his funeral on Monday. I received the email a week ago that he was not well so we worked through last weekend, Canada Day ( Monday ) and most of this week to get it ready. Suffice it to say that this car is a bit '' rough '' but it was his baby and so we kicked ass all week just to get it there. Bob was a great guy, it was the least I could do for him. I'm only sorry he never got to have that last ride in his car........ :(
The hard top you bought from me is no ordinary top. It once belonged to the Red Rocket. I wasn't using it, needed the money for things I did need, and now it's going to come back for a visit maybe.
Anyone going to the MBCC event this Sunday? We will be there.

Dan - I'm glad to finally track you down. Where is this MBCC event? I'd like to go and hopefully can meet you again.

This event is tomorrow from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM I usually arrive around 1:00 and stay until the end of the day. We may take two cars and will be driving there with another 113, a 1969 280SL from London, Ont. We will be coming from a different direction. Very nice drive through the rich farm lands of Oxford County.
Directions: From Toronto/London, take #401, exit at Highway 8 to Kitchener, then take Highway 7 West exit toward Stratford. Exit at Trussler Road (south). Turn right at the first intersection and drive through the village of Mannheim. Hubertushaus is on the left side of the road. Look for club signs. Local phone number is (519) 634-8491

Dan, I will be there, now that you looked after a few minor issues on my car :) looking forward to see you again!
-
Dan, Thanks for the direction. I will be there.

I will be at the event in my 1984 280SL. Come over and say hello.
