Title: Repaint gas tank and ATE brake booster
Post by: Bob G ✝︎ on June 24, 2013, 23:28:50
I am trying to cleaned things up for safe driving. I want to repaint my original Brake booster and gas tank.

Any suggestions as to what color black both these items should be painted?

Also I want a paint that will harden and not be affected by solvents. Should I go with a urethane paint that hardens quickly?

What is the acceptable gloss level for the brake booster and the gas tank?

At the same time that I drop the gas tank,  I will have it cleaned out and new filters put in.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Bob,

My ATE booster was purchased new; it has a semi-gloss, bordering more on glossy, black paint.
The gas tank was also purchased new; it has a semi-matte, or satin "chassis black" finish that closely matches the chassis components which had been powder coated to "chassis black" in restoration.

Though both of these parts were not "original" to the car, they were both bought as new and delivered with those finishes.

How about POR-15 chassis black paint?

Hi Bob, I sanded mine down to bare metal, washed it with thinners and sprayed 4 coats of a black Rust paint. Turned out with a nice gloss finish and the gas doesn't affect it. Carey
