Title: Help on removing auto stick knob. 1971 280SL

I am trying to remove the knob off the top of the auto gearshift lever. It spins but is not coming off.

Help.

Just knock it upwards it will come off. I use pliers with some rag in the jaws
slide it up the shaft then tap the pliers with a hammer.
