Title: Highway mileage
Post by: mmizesko on June 10, 2013, 13:26:55
Just took my 70 280 SL on a 500 mile sojourn from Columbus Oh, to Michigan.  Averaged 18.9 mpg on the highway run (mostly trying to keep up with the crazy Michigan drivers who go very fast).   What are other's experiences with mileage?

My 1971 280 SL varies from 18.5 to 19.2 mpg. Variation due to my driving mood!

My 230SL with 2000 mile old engine is getting between 22 and 24 mpg.  Nice

Is there not a risk of comparing US gallons with Australian (& UK) Imperial gallons here? 19 US gallons equates to almost 23 imperial gallons, so it looks like all three of you are getting about the same.  ;)

And just to confuse life a little more, in Australia, to satisfy our environmental lobby we are required to measure fuel consumption by listing the number of litres we use every 100kms. Therefore on our 2890km trip to the Pagoda Birthday celebrations our Pagoda gave 10.3litres/100km. Happy for someone else to convert that to either US or Imperial, My yardstick is our diesel  VW Passat which gives less than 5 litres/100km (half the consumption but not double the enjoyment!)

I think my speedo isn't all that acurate but I'm getting somewhere in the 10 liters to 100 km range.

10.3 L/100k is pretty impressive mileage for a Pagoda, IMHO.  It comes to about 22.84 mpg (US)  The conversion is 235.214583/mpg = Lphk or 235.214583/Lphk = mpg

Hi gugel,

I was very  happy with it - the motor is freshly reconditioned which made me feel even better by helping to justify the expense.
