Title: Window adjustment

Good morning,

I need some help in adjusting one of my windows. I am having trouble aligning the leading edge of the glass with the A pillar - no matter which variable I fiddle with it doesn`t seem to help. Ive searched the tech manual but can`t seem to find anything - is there a "Dummies guide to Window Adjustment" somewhere?  Basically there is a gap at the bottom when the top is snug in the cloth covered seal - the glass needs to move forward about 5mm and then then the top tilt back.

Perhaps have a read here under adjustment ... unless you have seen it before ... like all instruction/user manuals it might not be what you need. Have a peek anyhow scroll down to adjustments.

Hey George,

The gap seems to imply that the glass is tilted.
How does it fit at the top in relation to the hard top?

Assuming you are referring to the Blue 230sl....
did you re-work/clean/adjust the mechanism when you rebuilt the car?
Did you have to remove the glued on seats? or guides ( not sure what to call them) at the bottom of the glass ?

Hi Bob,

Yup, its the blue one...

The leading edge fits snugly at the top, but there is  about a  5mm gap at the bottom. I realise that I should be doing the fit with the hard top but its just too heavy for Jan and I- anyway, the problem would be the same - the leading edge needs to line up snugly, - the hard top will determine the height.

Both windows came out when I had her painted and I am sure I pulled everything apart to clean it up but I cannot remember if I had to reattach the slide that is attached to the glass - either way they are both solid.

George,

You really need to adjust the window to the hard top.  Once that is done correctly you then adjust the soft top to the glass not the glass to the soft top. Otherwise you run the risk of breaking the glass when you fit the hard top later and close windows and then try to open the doors..

Bit of a PIA but once it is done you wont always be trying to work on correcting the window.
