Title: Torque setting for 230SL steering wheel?
Post by: relbhcb on June 08, 2013, 19:02:45
Does anyone know what the torque setting is for the single large nut that holds the steering wheel on to an early 230SL? Or where I would find it?

I had to remove my steering wheel to fit a new multi function "stalk" and would like to know how tight I need to do the wheel up again.

Many thanks!

Julian

PS I did search, but couldn't find anything ...

The M-B Book of Tables states it to be 80Nm

The M-B Book of Tables states it to be 80Nm. You may want to use some light locking compound (like Loctite) to be extra sure.

There should be a lock under the nut to keep it from working loose. I won't use lock tight on anything I want to take apart some day. If anything, I use anti sieze more often than anything else.
Because the steering wheel is kind of hard to hold on to while tightening this nut, I use my impact gun to make sure it's tight. Put it on a low setting.
