I plan to strip down my hardtop for repaint and to remove the trim pieces for rechroming.
Like all things Mercedes, there is usually a right and wrong way to approach this task so I am hoping that someone who has done this might be prepared to give me some guidance on where to start and what order to do things in.
My main concern is removing the chrome trim around the edges of the hardtop without damaging them. I would like to leave the rear and side glass in place if possible as the seals are OK, but remove all other trim for rechroming.
Has anyone done this themselves?

Jeff,
I have done this a few times and so have many other members. I suggest you read this article by Gernold first:
http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Tops/HardTop
and then come back with more questions.
However, since you are not planning to replace the liner the later steps should not concern you. If you want to rechrome all pieces including those that wrap around the B-pillar post than you will have to take the quarter windows out. For me the most difficult piece to remove was the horizontal trim piece below the quarter window (top sitting upright). It is easily destroyed when you try to pry it off with force!

Thats a great help.
Many thanks
