Title: Hardtop headlining
Post by: iftykhan on May 21, 2013, 17:54:43

Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove stains from hardtop headlining?

I know headliners are readily available but from what I have read it is not an easy task.

I do have a vague recollection regarding some kind of spray which colours back to near original tone??

I don't have the specific product but, Brian Peters at Motoring Investments dyed my headliner. Looks like new. You may want to call him.

I also thought that my headliner could be renovated by just removing stain etc. as otherwise it looked great altogether. However, when taped here and there, there was tiny yellowish dust puffing out of there. Oftentimes, the layer of sponge that the headliner has on the other side ages turning into dust. Still nothing nasty, but I decided that it was time to replace it.

You can do it yourself in a couple of hours, buy yourself a can of SEM vinyl spray,  they come in over 30 colors. available on-line for about $20.00. I did one a while back it turned out like new.

Just make suer to clean the surface with something like "spray 9" this will give you a much better adhesion.

Good Luck.

Hi Iftykhan. I used Bradleys Plastikleen, followed by Plasticprep, followed by Liquid Plastic - all mail order from Frosts. 1 container of each was enough. Picture of these products plas before & after shots below

Alf,

Amazing visual results!  Would you comment on the feel of it when you touch it?  I see that the coating you used says "soft."  How different is it prior to re-coating?

I can't tell the difference. It's vinyl paint and the headlining is vinyl too (i think)
