Hello,
We'll need more info than the VIN. What does it say on the data plate in the engine compartment? It should be riveted into the engine bay on the left (driver's side). You have a US model, correct?

Doug I think Red should also contact MB and get a copy of the build sheet. Provided he doesn't have one.
Red out of all the codes to figure out the paint code is the easiest :D

Red,
I have a 69 280sl US, and the door pockets are of the soft type. I am not sure if this also applies for the 69 Euro version.

Red I have a Euro 69 280sl with the hard pockets. As far as MB not having the info you can contact MB directly in Germany I'm positive they will have it. When I needed info on my car I contacted the Classic Center here in the U.S. and they found the info almost instantly. I was impressed when he said "yes I have it right here, would you like me to fax or mail it to you" Unbelieveable! :D

The info is available from Mercedes. Here in the US, you can call New Jersey at 866-622-5277 and provide your VIN. The process takes only a few minutes.

Hello Red Kelly,
Have a look at this link
http://index.php?topic=1056
You will see the info to contact the MB classic centre in Germany for your data card.
The local UK MB dealers won't have the data card info. Also be aware that all you will receive is a photo copy of the original.
I suggest that you ask them to include a detailed explanation of the codes mentioned on the print out.
