Title: Engine oil leak

Some more help please.

I am gradually eliminating the small number of oil leaks from the engine. The next I wish to attack is the one that is coming from the oil dip stick tube where it enters the alloy casting above the sump. How is it secured and is there anything that I can do to tighten or seal it?

BTW, Just heard about the capture of the second Boston suspect - great work; I just hope he can be kept alive to help understand why.

Hello George,

Normally the tube is a tight press fit. Depending on the model there are various configurations. They all should have some kind of support bracket attached to the tube to keep it from vibrating and coming loose at the oil pan. You can try using a good sealer like Permatex. Use the original formula, not the silicone.  I would use the "hard setting #1 "  in this case. Use a good solvent to clean oil from both surfaces before installation.

Thanks Joe I`ll give the Permatex a try. Is it worth giving it a bit of a tap to try re seat it? Cant see any bracket though.

Hello George,

I'll double check on the bracket for you and get a picture. Taping it should be fine.
