Hi All,
Question: Did our Pagodas leave the Factory with a rubber or felt unterlay under the frontgrille ?

Motoring Investements says it was a masking tape underlay.

Masking tape is correct for where the grill surround is screwed to the body. Two small felt strips (aprox 1.5" x .3") on each of the "wings" that are attached to the barrel. The felt strips are between the "wing" and the black grill.

Hi John,
I have seen masking tape on the outside of the grill surround and on spots on the black grill (see photo) but have never seen felt strips between the wind and the central barrel.

I misunderstood. I thought you were asking about between the grill and the body and between the black screens and the body. That`s where Motoring Investments says there is masking tape. I didn`t know there was felt or rubber anywhere on the grill.

Hi John,

OK, Long story short, When I got the car back from the Shop back in '11 the grill was pretty dusty after sitting 20+ years so I took it apart to clean it, At that time the felt spacers on the "wings" had dried up and were barely held on by 40 year old glue. I had some foam weather strip that I cut to size and stuck them on in place of the old felt spacers. After reinstalling the grill assembly back on the car I realized the foam weather stripping was too thick as seen in this picture. I am planning on taking the grill out again soon to correct this problem by reinstalling the correct thickness felt strips. I will photographt the placing of the masking tape when the grill is out as well. I guess this was a long story after all :)

Mounting the bare grill to the fresh paintjob without any protection whatsoever leaves me bit worried.
Seen some remainings of felt-like material underneath the grill , but nothing inbetween grillsurround and body(nose)paint .
I was thinking of using some 2mm thick neoprene-adhesivetape (compressed 0.5mm ) to protect against bodypaintdamage.
Or would you Guys rather go for the maskingtape option?
