Hi, my 1969 SL has a dark brown carpet which has been fitted at some earlier stage. It has never looked right with the cognac upholstery and has shrunk too, over time. I have also recently found out that the boot (trunk) should have a rubber mat not carpet as mine does, at present.
Looking at the data card, the car was fitted with a brown Code 8008 coloured carpet but I am having trouble matching this with the ones on offer at present. I know it is not dark brown as there is a dark brown one listed in the Technical manual and the code is 8015.
Can anyone help identify what could carpet this might be at say KHM or Buds Bens plse. The car paint code is 268 (dark green or Dunkel Grun) and if anyone has photos of a car with this paint code, cognac upholstery, and a lighter colured carpert i would love to see them.
I am also looking to buy a correct rubber mat for the boot but have been cautioned to make sure it is the right oney. Buds Benz supply rubber mat replacements, are these as close as it gets to the original and if not who des have the correct ones plse?
Finally has anyone purchased a carpet set from qualitytopsandinteriors, and if so what did they think about the delivery, and the carpet itself?

Carpet code 8008, Braun, was assigned to interior codes: 249, 250, 139,140 on the 280 SLs. The codes 249 and 250 were for leather interior, and 139 and 140 were for M-B Tex. There were a Dunkelbraun (dark brown) and a Beige (very light brown/tan) also available.
As for products on market now, most all carpets for our cars are coming to the U.S. suppliers from German manufacturers. You have several upholstery companies selling the same carpet kit product. Suggest that you get samlpes from all, and prices. My source is GAHH in California. However there is World Carpet, etc, etc.

Rutger,
Sorry I did not get much time to talk to you at the Aust. 50th celebrations. I think you looked at my samples I had in the boot.
Suggest you go directly to the source suppliers to people like GAHH which is KHM in Germany who are happy to send samples out to check against the car.

Hi, thanks for posts so far. Garry I did look at your samples thanks and it was very useful to look at the weaves thanks. Could you and Bob plse comment on a source of rubber boot mats that are suitable replacements for the original.
To Kayvan, lovely looking car, where did you get your carpet plse and was the suppliers colour description tan? You are lucky your car is a 250SL in that you can justify using square weave. I would love to use square waeve in mine (280SL) but fear this might detract from the car's value

Rutger,
I cannot remember which supplier had the correct trunk mat. I suggest you try Buds or Millers but ask them first to confirm that it is the correct mat with the correct forming around the edge and not just a cutout plastic mat to fit the floor

GAHH was supplier
Yes Tan color
I would go with Carpet u like.
It's like not letting ur Wife go blonde b/c boss or peers might object !
I feel the multi-loop carpet looks like from a shag-carpet interior of a Cordoba
My car was originally Cognac....but replacement Cognac looks like leopard print
I bit bullet and chose Tan Roser from GAHH; my original Cognac was closer in color to it
It's my car & next owner can go jump in a lake

Original mats for rear boot I think are still available from M-B. Thy Classic Center.

The small mat under the spare tire has been NLA for a long time and the only choice was to cut it out of the ribbed material that MB sells. Some online sellers advertise such a cut out piece. But then of course one would not have the formed edges.
However, now one supplier appears to have a very decent reproduction - see:

Large rubber trunk mat from the Classic Center in Irvine...$89 plus shipping for MBCA members. I just bought two.
